Michigan Tech

Book Grants
The program is set up as a one-year grant award administered by the financial aid department at Michigan Tech.  Other restrictions are that the recipient must be from Upper Michigan or Wisconsin and have solid academic performance.  There are no restrictions on repeat grants. Contact the Financial Aid Department at Michigan Technical University to learn how to apply for this grant program.

Mackenzie Keefer won the book grant in both 2014 and 2015. Mackenzie is a Michigan native who majors in Material Science and Engineering and recently completed an internship in Fond Du Lac Wisconsin with Johnson Controls. She is also interested in music (plays trombone) and athletics (volleyball and ice skating).

Galina Berestetsky, a 3rd year student in Mechanical Engineering, was the recipient of our 2013 Michigan Tech grant.  She is from Chassell, Michigan, about 10 miles from Michigan Tech.  Her future plans are uncertain.

Andrew Lacombe is a 4th year pre-med student at Michigan Tech who has been accepted to the MD program at Michigan State University for Fall of 2013.  He is just short (one “B”) of a 4.0 GPA at Michigan Tech.  His home is in Negaunee, Michigan, about 80 miles from Houghton.  He graduated from high school, where he played football, golf and hockey, in 2009.  His dad is an engineer, his mother works in the Marquette hospital.   He has two sisters and one brother.  He is considering specializing in cardiac medicine and would like to return to the UP after finishing his education.
